Imitation of nature
Mimesis literally means reflection or imitation. Not entirely coincidentally, because in our nursery we try to imitate nature as much as possible. After all, we want the orchid to feel at home and grow well! You probably didn’t know these facts about the orchid and its origin.
Orchids have their origin in the tropics. In these warm and humid areas, the orchid clings to large tree trunks with its roots. The orchid is an epiphyte, which means that the plant grows on a different host. The term epiphyte comes – like Mimesis – from the Greek: Epi means ‘on’ and phyton means ‘plant’. That is why the orchids in our greenhouse always grow in a cultivation pot with pieces of tree bark. In addition, the cultivation pot is always transparent; just like in nature, the roots want to receive light.
But we do more! In our highly automated nursery we can mimic all aspects of the climate. The temperature, the humidity, the light intensity; down to the last detail we can regulate everything. Each plant is in our greenhouse for 1.5 years and experiences nature as in the rainforest. This allows us to grow top quality orchids!
In our inspiration center we are happy to take you through the story of the Mimesis plant. We will show you how we simulate the growth of Phalaenopsis in its natural habitat as accurately as possible in our greenhouse. We also show you by means of a model of our greenhouse which sustainable applications we have realized in our company to grow as sustainably as possible.
